Heads of mining and other
related activities in the solid minerals sector Under
African Mining Partnership (AMP) have converged on Abuja,
the nation's capital to continue the push to harmonizing
mining policies established by the African Union.
African Mining
Partnership, an initiative of the New African Partnership
for Africa's Development (NEPAD) is founded to pursue
uniform mining and mineral policies that would significantly
contribute to poverty reduction and wealth creation on the
African continent.
The meeting
according to the Permanent Secretary of the Nigerian
Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mrs. Gwendolyn
Nwachukwu, would also address the pecuniary issue bordering
on artisan and small scale mining, beneficiation,
environmental sustainability and human resources
development.
Further
acknowledging the fact that African Mining Partnership is
the bilateral relationship of the ministries in African
states stated that the partnership is responsible for
mineral development of the respective African countries with
the main objective of harmonizing the development efforts in
mining on the continent in line with the policies earmarked
by the African Union. |
